BGP Litigation announces the joining of partner Ekaterina Smolovaya and her team of five lawyers, further enhancing the firm’s tax advice and disputes practice as well as its customs law and international trade practice.
Ekaterina specialises in Russian and international taxation (including corporate income tax, value added tax, and personal income tax), alongside customs regulation and international trade. She expertly handles tax and customs inspections, resolves disputes, and advises on asset and business structuring, including transactions involving intellectual property and digital assets. Additionally, she reviews tax and foreign exchange considerations within Russian and international corporate frameworks. Her diverse client base spans manufacturing, real estate development, oil and gas, retail, logistics, e-commerce, IT, media, healthcare, and major beneficial owners, with projects covering regions such as the UK, the UAE, Cyprus, Israel, Singapore, Hong Kong, Canada, Turkey, the USA, the CIS, and more.
Prior to joining BGP Litigation, Ekaterina led the tax and customs teams at CLS. She has been ranked by Pravo-300, Kommersant and Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“With the arrival of Ekaterina’s team, our tax advice and disputes practice has been significantly strengthened, now comprising four partners and 20 lawyers. Based in our St. Petersburg office, they will provide comprehensive services – including tax inspections, litigation, audits, tax incentives, and international tax planning – to our clients”, said Alexander Golikov, partner at BGP Litigation.
“BGP Litigation’s multidisciplinary expertise spans over 30 legal and sectoral areas that frequently intersect with tax and customs matters. Effectively addressing client challenges today requires not only deep tax and customs knowledge but also proficiency in corporate law, sanctions regulation, intellectual property, litigation, and related fields. Joining a firm with such a robust multiservice offering was therefore essential for us”, remarked Ekaterina Smolovaya.
