Alexander has vast experience of both working with the customs authorities and counselling clients as a consultant and attorney on customs and foreign currency regulations, international trade, trade restrictions, certification of goods and anti-counterfeit protection of product brands, resolution of customs disputes, as well as white collar criminal defence in relation to customs offences.
Prior to joining BGP Litigation, for more than ten years, Alexander worked at the Customs Law Practice of the international law firm BCLP, where he headed the Group for Customs Dispute Resolution. Before that, Alexander worked his way from customs inspector to Deputy Head of Department at the Russian Federal Customs Service.
His knowledge of domestic customs procedures enables Alexander to engage in constructive dialogue with representatives of the customs and other state authorities, achieving positive outcomes. His experience helps him successfully resolve customs disputes both at the customs inspection stage and before the courts, while Alexander’s attorney status allows him to defend companies and their employees even if a criminal investigation is launched by the customs authorities.
Alexander participates in the work of business associations and their customs committees, as well as collaborating with industrial associations. He also has experience of promoting legislative initiatives. In particular, he has represented perfume and cosmetics companies before the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and other public authorities with a view to implementing a project for marking and achieving traceability of goods.
