BGP Litigation Partner Sergey Morozov has joined the board of the Russian Arbitration Association, becoming its Vice-Chairman. Sergey has also became the head of the Investment Disputes Working Group.

The main objectives of the RAA are to assist in developing arbitration in Russia and CIS countries, to promote Russian arbitrators at the national and international level, as well as to increase the competence of Russian lawyers in alternative dispute resolution.

“It is a great honour for me to become a member of the RAA Board, and I am grateful to the Association for its trust. Since its inception over ten years ago, the RAA has become one of Russia’s most authoritative dispute resolution platforms. I believe that, together with other members of the Board, we will continue to develop Russian arbitration in the best traditions of the Association”, says Sergey, “I have previously served as co-chairman of the RAA youth organisation, RAA40. I hope that the skills I developed there, multiplied my experience as an external consultant with international law firms in Russia and the USA and as an in-house lawyer, will help us in our common endeavour.”

Sergey has more than 13 years’ dispute resolution and sanctions experience. He represents both sovereigns and investors in investment disputes, acts for clients in ad hoc arbitration and under the rules of all major institutions, in maritime disputes and in litigation before the courts in Canada, Europe, India, Russia, Switzerland, the UK, Bermuda and the US. His experience includes coordinating the defence of the Russian Federation in investment arbitrations and related proceedings for over USD 70 bln.

As we mentioned before, on 19 November 2024, Sergey Morozov spoke at the annual RAA conference in Moscow. He delivered a presentation about protection of investors affected by sanctions in investment arbitration. Sergey is also actively involved in the RAA working group on development of the Anti-Sanctions Arbitration Protocol for Access to Justice (ASAP).
