BGP Litigation lawyers specialising in intellectual property and technology defended the Likee service in an IP lawsuit, resulting in a settlement and agreement on further mutually beneficial collaboration with the plaintiff.
A major owner of music and audio recording copyright filed a lawsuit alleging infringement of its exclusive intellectual property rights. The plaintiff claimed that Likee had infringed upon its rights by uploading audio recordings onto its website.
The BGP Litigation lawyers were tasked with proving that the client was an information intermediary, that content is published by users and that the service only provides a platform for uploading content.
The BGP Litigation lawyers looked into the technology behind the service, obtaining evidence that audio recordings were uploaded by users.
As a result, the parties reached a settlement releasing all claims and the case was closed. The parties also entered into an out-of-court agreement on further collaboration.
The project team included intellectual property and technology lawyers: Counsel Anastasia Dudko, Senior Associate Denis Volkov and Associate Anastasia Snopkova.
